1.     Open postdoctoral researcher opportunity: Development of Next-generation Probabilistic Landslide Hazard Map

Research group: Selected candidate will work at R-CCS Kobe, Japan with Computational Disaster Mitigation and Reduction Research Team

Advisors: Satoru Oishi, Professor and Team Leader, R-CCS, Kobe Japan

Ritesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Earthquake Engineering, IIT Roorkee, India

About the project: The goal of this project is to develop a planning and operational tool to predict the volume, runout distance, and instances of landslides in different geological regions with an associated probability of confidence. In this regard, we will develop a Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) model for the probabilistic landslide hazard assessment during natural disasters like earthquake and heavy rain. The framework will be developed utilizing the FDPS and the performance will also be assessed using the supercomputer for large-scale simulations. We are also planning to implement the concept of data assimilation to better calibrate our developed SPH model.

Requirement: We are looking for a candidate with advanced programming skills in C++ and sound knowledge of constitutive modeling in soil mechanics. Knowledge of smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) will be a plus point. The candidate must have a PhD degree in the relevant field or soon to be graduating. We are expecting to hire the deserving candidate latest by March 2021. Joining date will be decided per the selected candidate’s earliest convenience. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Interested candidates, please send their updated CV with pdfs of maximum three representing journal papers to Dr Ritesh Kumar at ritesh.kumar@eq.iitr.ac.in and/or Prof. Satoru Oishi at satoru.oishi@riken.jp. About the group: Riken Center for computational science (R-CCS) is one of the most prestigious research organizations in Japan. Recently, the Fugaku supercomputer at R-CCS has been credited as the fastest supercomputer in the world.  Our Computational disaster mitigation and reduction research team conduct extensive research with large-scale numerical simulations for natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunami and heavy rain. We offer a very competitive salary, work benefits, and an excellent working environment.
